The Italian Embassy in Brasilia won the \u201cLixo Zero Brasil 2022\u201d award, promoted by the Lixo Zero Brasil Institute, in the \u201cCertification\u201d category. The award is assigned each year to outstanding individuals or institutions that have distinguished themselves through concrete actions promoting \u201cZero Waste\u201d initiatives. During the award ceremony, held in Cuiab\u00e1, capital of the State of Mato Grosso, an award was also given to the Campari Group, the first Italian Zero Waste factory in Brazil.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn recent years, thanks to the Green Embassy project, we have been able to implement, through great commitment, a series of practices that contribute to the protection of the Environment. Receiving this prestigious award takes on an important significance both on a personal level and for the Italian Embassy in Brasilia and the Italian State\u201d, emphasised Italian Ambassador Francesco Azzarello during the ceremony.<\/p>\n
Today, the Italian Embassy in Brasilia correctly manages 97% of the waste produced with 100% of the organic waste being disposed of in the composting area within the Diplomatic Mission itself. During the award ceremony, the president of the Lixo Zero Brasil Institute, Rodrigo Sabatini, emphasised the importance of the measures taken by the Italian Embassy: \u201cThis is an emblematic fact\u201d, he said. \u201cThis Embassy has achieved 96% efficiency excellence in its waste management and makes an ethical commitment to avoid pollution and not to harm its host country\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Green Embassy project was also presented at the Best Practices Brazil Meeting, promoted by SEBRAE Mato Grosso – a Brazilian public body for the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises – and held at the Pantanal Event Center in Cuiab\u00e1. The project, coordinated by lawyer Pedro Moura, is also of social and educational importance. In fact, during 2022, guided tours involving ten schools and over 400 students were carried out to present the initiatives developed to protect the environment, including home composting.<\/p>\n
