Polish by birth, held prisoner in the Soviet Union, later a member of General Anders&#8217; 2nd Army Corps, Gustaw Herling was an eclectic and committed intellectual, as well as a cultural bridge between Poland, Italy and Naples, in particular, where he lived for many decades.<\/p>\n<p>The round table discussion organised at the Institute \u2013 during which Herling&#8217;s role in post-World War II literature and civic engagement will be explored \u2013 will be attended by Andrea F. De Carlo, Professor of Polish Language and Literature at the University of Naples <em>L&#8217;Orientale<\/em>; Marta Herling, Secretary General of the Italian Institute for Historical Studies, founded in Naples by Benedetto Croce; Magdalena \u015aniedziewska, Researcher at the Institute of Polish Philology at the University of Wroclaw; J\u00f3zef Maria Ruszar, Director of the <em>Instytut Literatury<\/em> in Krakow.<\/p>\n<p>Simultaneous translation from Italian into Polish will be provided.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"On 27 February the Italian Cultural Institute in Krakow is organising the Conference &#8216;Gustaw Herling: un ritratto tra Italia e Polonia\u201d (Gustaw Herling: a portrait between Italy and Poland).
