The works of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Karuizawa, Japan, are still ongoing with the participation of the Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation \u2013 Antonio Tajani.<\/p>\n
After their first meeting held yesterday, today\u2019s conferences will include several sessions divided by topic: from the situation in the Indo-Pacific area \u2013 with a focus on Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands; to the latest developments of the Ukrainian conflict, in addition to the G7 relationships with the leading international partners; the situation in the Middle East \u2013 with insight on Iran \u2013 as well as that in Central Asia \u2013 focusing on Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
\u201cGiven the region\u2019s increasing geopolitical and economic significance, Italy wants to strengthen its presence in the Indo-Pacific area,\u201d stressed Italian Deputy Prime Minister, \u201cby adopting a collaborative approach based on inclusivity. We are committed to providing our support in establishing safe trade routes and promoting a free, safe and prosperous regional order\u201d.<\/p>\n
Concerning Iran, Minister Tajani highlighted the importance of a \u201csolid approach based on the principle of proportionality and\u00a0progressiveness of sanctions\u201d.\u00a0The Italian Government intends to keep the dialogue with the Iranian Authorities open to discuss the nuclear programme and the security of the Middle Eastern region. As for Afghanistan, Minister Tajani reiterated \u201cItaly\u2019s position towards the unacceptability of the restrictions imposed by the Taliban on Afghani women and girls which undermine their freedom and fundamental rights\u201d.<\/p>\n
