RO-RO, which has been operating in Turkey\u2019s maritime sector for 20 years, has bought 60% of Samer Seaports &#038; Terminals, in the port of Trieste. The agreement, the first of this kind for a Turkish company, was signed in the Italian city. \u201cU.N. RO-RO plans to increase the port\u2019s capacity with an additional investment of 8.5 million euros. The terminal\u2019s daily capacity will be increased to allow Turkish containers and lorries to avoid long stretches of busy motorway when travelling to the countries of Central Europe\u201d, commented the head of the Turkish company, Sedat G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fo\u011flu. <\/P><br \/>\n<P>Established in Istanbul in 1994, U.N. RO-RO is now one of the Mediterranean\u2019s most important roll-on\/roll-off operators. In December 2007 the company and its related enterprises were purchased for 910 million euros by international investment fund Kohlberg Kravis &#038; Roberts (KKR). Based in Istanbul, the company owns a fleet of 12 ferries linking the city and other Turkish ports with important destinations such as Trieste.
