\u00a0Statement from the Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Germany, <\/em>Italy, Japan, Norway, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and the High Representative of the European Union:\u00a0 We are united in our condemnation of the Taliban\u2019s decision not to re-open secondary schools to Afghan girls.<\/i><\/span><\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

We are united in our condemnation of the Taliban\u2019s decision on March 23 to deny so many Afghan girls the opportunity to finally go back to school.\u00a0\u00a0 The Taliban\u2019s action contradicted its public assurances to the Afghan people and to the international community.\u00a0 The decision came after months of work by the international community to support teacher stipends based on an expectation that schools would be open for all,\u00a0with the higher interest of Afghan students and teachers in mind.\u00a0 And sadly, it came as eager Afghan girls were walking to their schools for the first time in seven months.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

We call on the Taliban urgently to reverse this decision, which will have consequences far beyond its harm to Afghan girls.\u00a0 Unreversed, it will profoundly harm Afghanistan\u2019s prospects for\u00a0social cohesion and\u00a0economic growth, its ambition to become a respected member in the community of nations, and the willingness of Afghans to return from overseas.\u00a0 It will have an\u00a0inevitable\u00a0impact on the Taliban\u2019s prospects of gaining political support and legitimacy either at home or abroad.\u00a0 Every Afghan citizen, boy or girl, man or woman, has an equal right to an education at all levels, in all provinces of the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

L\u2019azione dei Talebani contraddice le assicurazioni pubbliche da loro rese al popolo afgano e alla comunit\u00e0 internazionale. La decisione \u00e8 arrivata dopo mesi di lavoro da parte della comunit\u00e0 internazionale per garantire gli stipendi degli insegnanti sulla base dell\u2019aspettativa che le scuole sarebbero state aperte a tutti, in considerazione del superiore interesse degli studenti e degli insegnanti afgani. Se confermata, la decisione arrecherebbe un grave danno alle prospettive di coesione sociale e di crescita economica dell\u2019Afganistan, alla sua aspirazione di diventare un rispettato membro della comunit\u00e0 delle nazioni e alla volont\u00e0 degli afgani di fare ritorno in patria dall\u2019estero. Questa decisione avr\u00e0 un impatto inevitabile sulle prospettive dei Talebani di ottenere sostegno politico e legittimazione sia in patria sia all\u2019estero.
