Foreigners interested in studying Italian can turn to the Italian Cultural Institutes, which offer Italian language courses for adults on payment. Thanks to the presence of qualified teachers, the Institutes offer very high-level Italian language and culture courses customised to the students’ level of knowledge. The courses may end with an exam leading to the issue of an Italian Language Certificate by one of the certifying bodies recognised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Furthermore, there are Italian language and culture courses especially dedicated to the communities of Italian descent living abroad. Over the years, the Italian language courses for our communities abroad have become an essential tool in the strategy to spread the knowledge of Italian abroad and have contributed to characterising Italian as a vehicle of culture and no longer as the language of emigrants. The courses are split into courses for children of nursery, primary and secondary schools and courses of Italian as a Second Language. The courses are incorporated, under different headings, into local school curricula through ad hoc agreements between the diplomatic and consular offices and the Schooling Authorities of the Countries concerned.
Lastly, it is possible to study Italian at one of the Committees of the Dante Alighieri Society present in the world.
