Iraq: Italy gets behind sports for young people

Minister Franco Frattini will sign a Memorandum of Understanding between Italy and Iraq on Friday 11 June at the foreign ministry in Rome. This sports-related agreement will make it possible for the Development Cooperation and ENI to finance the building of multifunctional sports facilities in Iraq’s main cities and training courses in Italy for Iraqi coaches, managers and sports doctors.

In addition to Minister Frattini, signatories of the agreement will include Vice President of the International Olympic Committee Pescante, President of CONI Petrucci, Chief Executive Officer of ENI Scaroni, a spokesperson for the Iraqi government, head of the Iraqi Prime Minister’s office for Sport and Member of the Iraqi Lower House Alì Al Dabbagh and Iraqi Olympic Committee Delegate Sameer Sadeq. Spokesperson Al Dabbagh amd Delegate Sadeq will be accompanied by the presidents of the main Iraqi soccer teams—“Al Zaware” and “Al Khark”—and by President of Gulf Sands Petroleum (ENI’s Iraqi partner) Madhi Sajjad.

Italy intends to expand its cooperation activities in Iraq, involving the business world also in public-private collaboration on socially conscious initiatives. An example is collaboration on sports and education development that places ENI’s alongside with Italian and Iraqi public and sports institutions.
