Experts meet in Beijing to discuss future light sources

The second Italo-Chinese Bilateral Workshop on 'New Advanced Coherent Light Sources: The Radiation Sources of the 21st Century' was held in Beijing, organized by the Embassy’s Scientific Office. The conference was an important moment of encounter for Italian and Chinese experts in a sector where Italy has recognized international experience thanks to major scientific infrastructures.

Participants in the workshop included Italian and Chinese experts who discussed the next generation of coherent radiation sources and their applications. Representing Italy were researchers from the National Research Centre (CNR), the National Nuclear Physics Institute (INFN), Elettra, ENEA and “La Sapienza” University of Rome. China is following Italy’s experience in the sector, where two Free Electron Lasers (FEL) are in the process of being completed in Trieste and in Rome; while China is also in the process of designing and building an FEL at the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF).
