The Italian Cooperation is betting on clean energy in Latin America. The MFA has organized a forum on renewable energy and energy efficiency in Latin America for 15 September, in collaboration with the Italo-Latin American Institute, the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) and the Gestore Servizi Energetici (GSE), during which two projects financed by the Directorate General for Development Cooperation and recently developed by the Institute are to be introduced.
The forum, planned ahead of the 5th National Italy-Latin America and the Caribbean Conference to be held in Rome on 5 and 6 October, is to be entirely focused on the theme of renewable energy and energy efficiency in Latin America, and on financial instruments in support of small and medium-sized Italian enterprises in that sector. The forum agenda includes the presentation of the book “Iila-Cepal: America Latina e Caraibe: La sfida dell’energia” (Iila-Cepal: Latin America and the Caribbean: the energy challenge), with the intention of encouraging its use as a reference source for efforts that will involve Italian and international institutions, technical research centres, financial institutions and the government agencies of Latin American countries.
The Italian Cooperation funded initiatives to be illustrated are: a project in support of the improvement of Latin American energy systems and energy savings systems, with experts from Colombia, Paraguay, Ecuador and Bolivia attending; the other is a project on the current status and development of geothermic resources in Central America, under the direction of Prof. Antonio Caprai. The agenda also includes an illustration of Latin America’s renewable energy framework, to be followed by an analysis of Italy’s efforts in support of renewable energy and energy efficiency, with the presentation of the financial instruments available to businesses. Thematic afternoon sessions will be dedicated to opportunities for cooperation and investment in Latin American countries and to Italian success stories.
On 8 September Minister Frattini will also be at the Italo-Latin American Institute for the signing of a Cooperation Framework Agreement between the Institute and the Community of Sant’Egidio.
