Through Ansaldo Nucleare, Ansaldo Energia purchased 100% of Nuclear Engineering Services (NES), an English company engaged in the largest nuclear decommissioning programme in the United Kingdom. The nearly 36-million-euro purchase is one of the developments announced by the Strategic Italian Fund for Ansaldo Energia on the occasion of the accord with Shanghai Electric which controls 40% of the Italian firm. NES, a firm with 400 employees located in three plants in the UK, reports annual turnover of approximately 45 million euro. It is heavily involved in the building of three plants for the removal and disposal of remote contaminated material to inside the Sellafield site. It has also built the only reactor that has become operational in England within the last 10 years, and supplied China with the first AP1000. It is currently engaged in Argentina on projects for improving security and extending the lifespan of plants (PLEX) and on a decommissioning programme in Italy.
