Bolivia - Italy among speakers at the pre-G77 climate conference

Italy was among the leaders at the conference cycle “Environment and sustainable development for better living”, organised by the Bolivian Ministry of Environment and Water in collaboration with the Italian foreign ministry. The meetings were held from 19 to 21 May in La Paz, Cohcabamba and Santa Cruz. The latter of these is slated to host the 14-15 June summit of the G77+China in which 130 countries will be participating.

Amazonia sin Fuego (Pasf) Programme

The panel included the highest Bolivian authorities in the sector, and international speakers such as Prof. Eduard Muller, consultant to the Amazonia sin Fuego (Pasf) Programme and expert in integrated rural management and sustainable development. The PASF is funded by the Italian foreign ministry, Brazil and the Latin American Development Bank. The three-day event, centred on sustainable development and climate change, offered opportunities for reflection on those themes while also making an important contribution to outlining the G77 agenda.Sustainable development and the discussions surrounding the 2015 post-Kyoto Protocol were indeed the focus of the main meetings at Santa Cruz. The PASF was invited by Bolivia to present its technical and methodological proposal, which is garnering broad consensus in that Andean country. The programme aims to repeat the excellent experience of Brazil (1999-2009), working on reducing the impact of forest fires through the promotion, training in and diffusion of alternatives to the use of fire in agricultural and animal breeding practices.
