Brazil – Italian Embassy and Cultural Institute organise a Solo Exhibition by Salvatore Garau in Brasilia

From Nov. 8 to Dec. 4, Brasilia will experience a new dimension where infinity meets the profound, a dimension at the same time so minute and energising. This is the intensity expressed by the cross-cutting antagonisms that will be on show in Brasilia, with the works of one of Italy's most complete and original contemporary artists.

The exhibition "Salvatore Garau -1993/2015 Paper and Canvas" will be hosted in the Museu Nacional do Conjunto Nacional da Republica. The artist himself will attend the opening of the exhibition, which is organised by the Italian Embassy in Brazil and the Italian Culture Institute of Sao Paulo, closing an important cycle of shows of Italian plastic and visual arts held in Brazil in 2016. After Fortunato Depero's pioneering Futurism, with the kinetic art of "Sguardo e Movimento" ("Glance and Movement"), it will now be the turn of Garau's works to display elements of Romanticism in the guise of a totally contemporary form of art.

The exhibition includes 60 works on canvas or on paper, performed throughout two decades of "portraying spaces animated by movement and pictorial events", as defined by Lorand Hegyi, art critic and director of the Modern Art Museum of St. Etienne, France. Hegyi explained that Garau creates spaces of shaking structures that recall the movement caused by strong winds or earthquakes, or architectural structures that, in order to achieve clarity and geometric objectivity, relate to emotional games in a perturbing, reckless and irrational frenzy. Sardinia-born Salvatore Garau, painter, musician and writer, has exhibited his works in major European art galleries and his paintings may be found in private collections of international renown. His personal profile spans from music, which he began with in 1977, to his experience in visual arts in 2000. For Garau art is contained in one word: Love. "I do not see the marks left by man only as great works, but as love for what surrounds us, as a sequence of small and great actions lived with passion," remarked the artist.
