The Farnesina hosts the International Conference “The Western Balkans in the European Union”, co-organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), in conjunction with the Centre International de Formation Européenne (CIFE) and the Centre Franco-Autrichien pour le rapprochement en Europe (CFA).
The event is part of the preparatory activities of the Western Balkans Process Summit – to be hosted in Trieste next 12 July by the Italian Presidency – and gathers national and European experts from the EU Member States and the Balkans with the aim of contributing to the outcome of the Western Balkans Process and to the role of Italy and of the European Union in the integration process of the Balkan Countries.
The Conference will be opened by the Secretary General of the MAECI, Ambassador Elisabetta Belloni, and by the Deputy director of the IAI, Nathalie Tocci. The opening address will be delivered by the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Vincenzo Amendola.
The Conference will close with remarks by Michele Giacomelli, Special Envoy of the MAECI for the Western Balkans Process, and by Ambassador Ferdinando Nelli Feroci, the president of the IAI.
