Mexico: Eni is awarded contracts for three new exploration and production blocks

Eni has been awarded the contracts for three new exploration and production blocks in the South of Mexico. The announcement was made at a ceremony covering proposals for the first phase of  'Round 2', which embraces contracts for 15 oil exploration and production blocks in the Southeast Basin and in the Gulf of Mexico, at depths ranging from 20 to 500 metres.Eni was, in fact, awarded 3 out of the 10 blocks assigned. (For five of the blocks no offers were submitted). The first contract entitles the awardee to be an exclusive operator; the second is as part of a consortium -with a majority share - along with the UK's Capricorn Energy (a subsidiary of Cairn Energy) and the Mexican Citla; the third contract will be shared with just Citla. The areas assigned are all located in the Southeast Basin and are adjacent to those Eni was awarded during 'Round 1', where the exploitation plan of the Amoca 2 field is being implemented with an estimated production of 30-50,000 barrels per day in 2018. Exploration operations are still going on in the area.
