South Africa - “Unfindable”, a docufilm on Ettore Majorana, screened in South Africa

The disappearance of Ettore Majorana, considered to be the greatest twentieth century Italian physicist, which occurred in March 1938 on a ferry trip between Palermo and Naples, is one of the biggest Italian mysteries of the last hundred years. This genius from Sicily will be brought back to life in the docufilm entitled “Unfindable” ("Nessuno mi troverà") by Egidio Eronico, starring Francesco Guerra, Nadia Robotti and Ettore Majorana jr. The film is distributed by Istituto Luce-Cinecittà and was released in Italian cinemas in April 2016. The screening is scheduled for Friday, 8 September, at 6:30 p.m., at the Bioscope Cinema in Maboneng, 286 Fox St, Johannesburg. The event is organised by the Italian Cultural Institute in Pretoria, in association with the science attaché of the Italian Embassy in Pretoria. Admission is free but seats must be reserved at iicpretoria@esteri.it.

The screening will be followed by a debate chaired by the Embassy’s science attaché, Pierguido Sarti. Even though many theories have been advanced, why this theoretical physicist - only 31 at the time - disappeared without leaving a trace or explanation, remains a mystery. Through documents, archive images, witness accounts, speculation and graphic novel animation, Eronico reconstructs Majorana's imagined final hours, along with the network of relationships and feelings of a man considered to be a genius, and whose unsolved mystery has turned into a paradigm of the scientific, political and moral issues that continue to stir society.
