Minister Alfano meets Commissioner Hahn

"EU enlargement and neighbourhood issues have always been at the core of Italy's foreign policy and our views are largely in tune with those of Commissioner Hahn. We believe the EU enlargement to the Western Balkans is an essential political, economic and cultural priority, rooted in our geography and in our common history. This is why we have supported the European Commission's new strategy, "A  credible enlargement  perspective for the Western Balkans", which shows the way for Balkan countries to make irreversible progress on the European integration "track" by 2025.
We are also in tune with the Commission with regards to the European Neighborhood Policy, and thanks as well to the current 2018 OSCE Italian Chairmanship, there is ample margin to act together in this area, which is key for our security: from the Ukrainian crisis to protracted conflicts, challenges and opportunities in the Mediterranean," said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation during the meeting he held today with the European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Commissioner, Johannes Hahn.
