GREECE - KAFIREAS WIND FARM BY ENEL GREEN POWER KICKS OFF OPERATIONS
Inauguration of the new Kafireas wind farm built by ENEL Green Power. With a total installed capacity of over 154 MW this is the largest wind farm in Greece. The event was attended by Prime Minister Mitsotakis and the Minister of the Environment and Energy Chatzidakis. Also present were the CEO of Enel Green Power, Antonio Cammisecra, the Director of European and Euro-Mediterranean Affairs of Enel, Simone Mori, and the Director of Enel Green Power Europe, Aristotelis Chantavas. The complex is located in the vicinity of the municipality of Karystos, on the island of Evia facing the Attica Region. Construction activities started back in 2010, with a total investment of approximately 300 million euros, implemented by Enel Green Power through its Greek subsidiary, Enel Green Power Hellas SA (EGPH) and with the collaboration of the Greek Group Copelouzos.
The plant, a hub of seven wind farms, for a total of 67 state-of-the-art turbines, will be able to generate around 480 GWh per year. The energy produced will be connected to the Greek electricity grid via an underwater cable and it will also offer a significant contribution to reducing the CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, estimated at around 500,000 tons a year.
In fact, Kafireas comes to add to two other wind farms in the Country managed by Enel Green Power (Iliolousti I, 7.5 MW, and Iliolousti II, 9 MW). With the Kafireas wind farm the company reaches over 460 MW of installed capacity from various renewable sources, mainly wind, but also solar, around 90 MW, and hydroelectric power, around 20 MW.
