Kenya. The Guala Closures Group invests in the manufacturing sector.
The Guala Closures Group, world leader in the production of bottle caps and containers for alcoholic drinks, wine, oil and vinegar, water and soft drinks, food and pharmaceuticals, headquartered in Spinetta Marengo, in the province of Alessandria, has opened a production plant in Nairobi.
The plant, with a surface area of approximately 1,500 square metres, was built in only a few months and will produce secure anti-counterfeiting closures for alcoholic beverages. To manage the plant, the Group specifically established the Guala Closures East Africa, a company registered in Kenya. The production lines installed onsite are prevalently for "Made in Italy" products.
The total investment amounts to approximately 5.7 million USD, making it one of the largest joint stock companies in Kenya. It is the Group’s second production unit in Africa, after the one opened in Cape Town co-managed with a local partner, but it is the first direct "greenfield" investment 100% owned by Guala Closures in the continent. The investment is aimed to not only supply the Kenyan market but also the markets in neighbouring Countries such as Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania, thus confirming the consolidation of Kenya as a commercial and industrial hub in the region. The future agreement on the establishment of a continental free trade area could disclose further export prospects also to West African markets.
