GREECE - Sparkle, the first certified operator to use renewable energy in its data centres.
Sparkle announced that its subsidiary in Greece has obtained the certification for the use of renewable energy in the data centres of Metamorfosis (Athens), Koropi and Chania.
The Certificate of Origin, issued by Hellenic Petroleum and Edison (ELPEDISON), one of Greece's most environmentally conscious electricity operators, certifies that, since May 2020, 100% of the electricity used in Sparkle's data centres in Greece comes from renewable sources with zero carbon emissions.
The Certificate of Origin follows the certification obtained by Sparkle Greece in 2018 for its environmental management system, once again confirming the company's commitment to sustainability.
Sparkle is the market leader in the Cloud and Data Centre sector in Greece, with a 40% share in the Colocation business and more than one hundred customers including service providers, system integrators, institutions, local companies and multinationals, in continuous growth. The company is also completing the construction of its fourth data centre in Greece, Metamorfosis II. Its completion and the entry into service of the first module are scheduled for early 2021, providing the country with one of the largest and most advanced "green" data centres in Europe.
Over the last two years, Sparkle has invested in the environmental sustainability of all its data centres in the Mediterranean area, Italy, and Turkey, as well as in Greece, to improve energy efficiency, reliability, and safety measures.
