POLAND – FIAT CHRYSLER AUTOMOBILES ANNOUNCES HUGE INVESTMENT AT TYCHY PLANT

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has announced that it will start rolling out Jeep, Fiat and Alfa Romeo electric cars from its Tychy plant in Poland. An initial investment of 170 million euros has already been planned although the final value of the investment, including research and development, is expected to reach 2 billion euros. The French Peugeot-Citroen (PSA) platform will be used to manufacture hybrid Jeep, Fiat and Alfa Romeo brand B-SUV vehicles. The plant, located in Poland's southern Silesian industrial region, is one of the company's largest ones and currently makes the Fiat 500 and Lancia Ypsilon models. The first Jeeps are expected to be rolled out within the first quarter of 2022 and the expected output is 400,000 cars per year, while the Fiat 500 and Lancia Ypsilon models will continue to be produced in 2021. The new project also benefits from financial support from the “Katowice Special Economic Zone”, in the form of tax exemption for manufacturing electric and hybrid cars. SUV production in Poland is driven by the steadily growing demand throughout Europe and in other automotive markets.
