The Universidad del Norte of the Colombian city of Barranquilla this year held the 19th edition of the "Cattedra Europa" (“European Professors”). The event, organised for the 50th anniversary of the birth of the University, was attended by over 200 lecturers from all over the world. The Country invited for this year’s edition was the United Kingdom. The lectures on programme included one on companies’ strategic learning and innovation projects by Florian Lennert, Associate Director of the London School of Economics and Political Science, one on the issue of sustainability by Professor Brigitta Schutt from the University of Berlin, and one on pedagogy and social education in Brazil by Professor Erico Ribas Machado from the State University of Ponta Grossa (Brazil). Some of the events on programme were organised by the Italian Institute of Culture (IIC) in Colombia, including “The first Seminar on Italian Language and Culture” which focused on promoting Italian culture and increasing the Italian language courses in the Universidad del Norte; a lecture entitled “Italian Migration to the Colombian Caribbean; History and Integration” by Furio Ricciardiello, the honorary consul of Italy in Barranquilla; a seminar entitled "L'Italia dei mille campanili e delle mille cucine. Sviluppo di attivita' didattiche attraverso la cultura e la cucina italiana" (“The Italy of a thousand church steeples and culinary traditions. Developing teaching activities through Italian culture and cuisine”); and a workshop called “Cinema as a Strategy to Interpret Italian Culture and its use in Italian Curricula”.
