Cameroon: Sapienza University awarded road safety project

Rome’s Sapienza University has been awarded the project to create a database and information system on road safety in Cameroon. The project, which will be conducted by the university’s transport and logistics research centre, will receive funding from the government of Cameroon and from the World Bank.

The initiative will be implemented over the coming 20 months and envisages the creation of a centre to collect and analyse data on road traffic accidents for onward transmission to the relevant ministries and police forces. The centre will be based in the National Advanced School of Public Works. The aim of the project is to draw up a national accident-prevention strategy ad policies to improve road safety and traffic circulation. The World Bank plans to extend or replicate this initial pilot project to other countries in the region.
