Germany: Berlin hosts the first Italian-German conference on smart cities

The Italian Embassy in Berlin recently hosted the first Italian-German conference on smart cities. The event was attended by more than 150 personalities, including the competent city councillors and managers of the Municipalities of Milan, Florence, Turin, Munich and Berlin, in addition to the top executives of Enel, Prysmian, BMW and of the Intesa San Paolo Innovation Center.

The leitmotif of the conference focused on the growing importance of metropolitan areas as the primary players in sustainable development and on the contribution that large Italian and German cities may make to the development of policies on sustainable mobility, digital transformation and participatory urban development.

Particularly appreciated among the German participants was the presentation of three Italian metropolitan areas (Turin, Milan, Florence), each of which is a model of “good practices” (in terms of electric mobility, connectivity and social innovation) in several areas of excellence achieved by Italian administrations, which are in a more advanced phase of development than those of German local administrations. The conference offered a high-level forum of comparison with interesting spin-offs in terms of future cooperation opportunities between Italian and German local authorities.
