Bolivia: Prior authorisation will be needed to import 399 products

Prior authorisation will be needed to import 399 products to Bolivia as of May 1, 2016.  The new requirement has been laid out in two supreme decrees regarding the food and textile industries issued by the country’s president Evo Morales. The first decree establishes that the prior authorisation requirement is to replace the import permit for foods and beverages formerly provided by the Bolivian National Service of Livestock Heath and Food Safety (SENASAG). The food products to be authorised are: soybean oil, sunflower oil, brown sugar, fruit juices, mineral and natural waters as well as their derived products. The second decree provides that the Ministry of Productive Development and Plural Economy shall issue pre-consents for imports of manufactured goods, except for products of negligible expense and those from the countries of the Andean Community (Colombia, Ecuador and Peru). Consents shall be issued within 60 working days of receipt of the request. The textile products included are: coats, suits, shirts, blouses, lingerie, pyjamas, t-shirts, sweaters, socks, footwear in general, draperies, curtains, upholstery items, furniture and others. The regulations for implementing the decrees should be issued within the next two months.
