Second Week of Italian Cuisine in the World – Promotional Event of the Basilicata Region
The Italian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, in conjunction with the Basilicata Region and the Association DMLA.be, today hosts an event to promote the fashion, culinary and winemaking tradition and historical heritage of the Basilicata Region, at the attendance of Hon. Gianni Pittella.
The guest of honour at the event will be the world-renowned Basilicata-born fashion designer Michele Miglionico, who will present a fashion show with his creations inspired by the Holy Virgins of Lucania: the narrative of a people that is suggestive and symbolic of the sacred art of the South of Italy. The event will also focus on the region’s culinary tradition with a tasting of typical Lucania dishes made by Chef Pino Golia, from the restaurant “Il Picchio Nero”, located in the heart of the Pollino National Park, in the province of Potenza. The event is held during the 2nd Week of Italian Cuisine in the World and is organised with an eye on two important celebrations: 2018, the European Year of Cultural Heritage, and Matera as the European Capital of Culture in 2019. The event will be attended by the Chair of the EU Group of Progressive Alliance of Socialists & Democrats, Hon. Gianni Pittella, other Members of the European Parliament including Hon. Silvia Costa, former Chair of the Culture and Education Committee, Hon. Simona Bonafé and Hon. Mercedes Bresso.
