CHINA - INAUGURATION OF THE TIAN MU LI MULTIPURPOSE COMPLEX IN HANGZHOU, DESIGNED BY RENZO PIANO.
The Tian Mu Li multipurpose complex, designed by the Italian starchitect Renzo Piano, who also supervised its construction, was recently inaugurated in Hanghzou, China. The complex, which features a total indoor floor space of 230,000 m2, consists of 17 buildings most of which are arranged around the perimeter of the site and enclose a public green space in the middle called the "City Lobby", where meetings and outdoor activities can be held. The buildings surrounding the square are connected by means of intersecting pedestrian walkways, while the atriums of each building face onto the green public space. The complex also includes an art gallery, venues for events, a number of retail outlets and offices, a large bookshop, a supermarket, a hotel, restaurants and bars. The facades facing onto the "City Lobby" consist of a combination of glass, aluminium panels, architectural concrete and vertical greenery. In addition, several small modular pavilions will be used as greenhouses, exhibition halls or retail outlets. The Dottor Group, an Italian company of excellence that has created an "architectural concrete" of the highest quality, also participated in the construction of the complex.
