Russian Federation – The Hermitage hosts an exhibition on Mariano Fortuny

An exhibition dedicated to Mariano Fortuny, the Spanish painter, stylist, set designer, photographer, designer, decorator and collector, and a naturalised Italian citizen, opened in St. Petersburg. The exhibition includes a selection of works from museum collections and private Venetian and Russian collectors. In addition to the fabrics and the garments created by "The Wizard of Venice", the exhibition also showcases drawings and projects and some of Fortuny's theatre works, as well as part of his personal collection, currently hosted in Venice's Musei Civici.

The exhibition, which will run until March 13, also features several precious objects from the Hermitage Museum collections: fabrics manufactured in Italy between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, Copt fabrics, antique sculptures and oriental ceramics which serve well to illustrate the legacy left by the Venetian master. The initiative was organised by the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, Villaggio Globale International and the Hermitage Museum, in conjunction with the Italian Cultural Institute in St. Petersburg.
