France - Study Day in Paris on Ungaretti's

In December 1916, private Giuseppe Ungaretti published “Il Porto Sepolto”, his first pamphlet of 33 poems in 80 copies, an implosion of language and prosody; this booklet was to revolutionize Italian poetic creation and counted Apollinaire and Breton amongst its readers.  A hundred years later, the Italian Cultural Institute in Paris presents a Study Day dedicated to this creative liminal moment of an immense author whose far-reaching and persistent appeal still affects current readers and researchers. Italian and French specialists and researchers will be presenting the state-of-the-art in research, publcations and translation of Ungaretti’s poems and will describe how his modernist innovation was nourished by a rereading of tradition. Experts such as Carlo Ossola, Franco Livi and Jean-Charles Vegliante and Italian and French young researchers will discuss the state of research, editions and translations of Ungaretti’s work and will show how Ungaretti’s modernist innovation draws on the rereading of tradition. The event, that is scheduled to take place on 13 December, is organized by Massimo Lucarelli  (Savoie Mont Blanc University) and by Isabel Violante (the Panthéon-Sorbonne University of Paris).
