The Italian Cultural Institute (ICC) in Guatemala City will host architect Andrea Maffei for a special lecture on 30 January. Mr Maffei will come from Milan for an event called "Building the Dream", organised by the University Francisco Marroquin, in collaboration with the ICC.
The Italian architect partners on Milan's "CityLife" project with Arata Isozaki, considered to be one of the masters of Japanese architecture. The project includes the 207-metre high Torre Allianz, the tallest high-rise in Italy. In December 2016, the Isozaki-Maffei Torre Allianz, part of the CityLife project, received the prestigious nomination as "2016 Best Tall Buildings Europe Finalist", in the annual international award called by the Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) of Chicago. Together with his professional activities, Mr Maffei also writes for several architecture periodicals. Since 1997, he has published several articles on Japanese contemporary architecture in Casabella Architectural Digest. He is also curator of the monograph "Toyo Ito, The works, the projects, the writings", published by Electa in 2003.
