To celebrate the Japanese 'Hinamatsuri' festivity - the dolls’ festival - the kindergarten of the Farnesina hosted the event “Incanti Giapponesi” (“Japanese Enchantments”) to attune children to Japanese culture through educational games conducted by specialised staff.
The dolls festival, in fact, is an important occasion in which to pray for the good and health growth of little girls and young women, wishing them good health and happiness. The origin of the celebration dates back to the 7th century and it is a tradition to exhibit in one's home dolls passed from one generation to another. This custom has been adopted at the Farnesina where children, supported by nursery school teachers and parents, paired up boy and girl dolls and made origamis. These activities seek to raise the children’s sensitivity to handling different materials, thus enabling them express their creativity. The event closed with traditional Japanese songs, to acquaint children with new and different sounds.
