Joining forces to meet the challenges of sustainable growth: this is the goal of the 9th Italy-Latin America and Caribbean Conference, scheduled to take place at the Farnesina on October 10. The conference, which, every two years brings together the Foreign Ministers of the Latin American and Caribbean countries, delegations and senior representatives of the Region's Embassies, experts and personalities from the Italian institutions and private sector in Rome, will focus on the concrete initiatives that can promote the circular economy.

The conference, which will be opened by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, followed by a contribution by the Minister of Justice Alfonso Bonafede, will therefore have a purely operational slant. Through the sharing of experiences and the launching of new proposals, concrete results will be pursued in line with the goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. In particular, regarding the issue of sustainable growth, a declaration of intent will be adopted for the promotion of a circular and eco-sustainable city model and for proposing concrete training activities for the prevention of corruption, which carries a very high economic cost, particularly in the field of public procurement.

The aim of the conference is also to strengthen the economic, cultural and historical links between Italy and Latin America, a very strong relationship that must not be taken for granted but must be nurtured with determination and perseverance. More than 3,500 Italian companies have made investments in Latin America and have set up production facilities: in 2018 direct investments from Italy reached the value of 31 billion euros, while the interchange is in the order of 23 billion, with over 14 billion exports from our Country, a figure that presents further room for improvement. Opportunities for collaboration in the areas of technological innovation, the digital and circular economy, academic and scientific relations are also of great interest and topical importance.

The Conference, which will be attended by 38 national delegations composed of Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Representatives of Latin American and Caribbean countries, as well as leading representatives of international and regional development Organizations and Banks, will also offer the opportunity for a series of bilateral meetings for Minister Di Maio. The conference will end with a Final Declaration whereby the participants commit to collaborating in order to achieve the agreed objectives.
