Farnesina to meet metropolitan cities for an integrated promotion of Italy's Cultural, Economic and Innovation System

Florence will launch the first of 14 roadshows in Italy's metropolitan cities. Palazzo Medici Riccardi will host the event "Farnesina meets metropolitan cities for an integrated promotion of Italy's Cultural, Economic and Innovation System". It is organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, ANCI - the national association of Italian municipalities with the Metropolitan City of Florence, with the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Activities and Tourism, the Department of Regional Affairs of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and the Agency for European Research (APRE).

The event opens at 10 a.m. with addresses by Benedetto Della Vedova, Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; Dario Nardella, Mayor of the  Metropolitan City of Florence and coordinator of the Metrocities at ANCI and Matteo Biffoni, Mayor of  Prato and President of ANCI in Tuscany.

The plenary assembly of the opening session of the roadshow will be chaired by Vincenzo De Luca, Director General for the Promotion of Italy's Cultural, Economic and Innovation System of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

This unique roadshow is the result of joint action between institutions. It is part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in Rome on July 1, 2015 by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Undersecretary of State for Regional Affairs of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and the President of ANCI.

It is the first evidence of an integrated territorial promotion which favours the internationalisation process of metropolitan cities and, in a broader sense, of Italy's Cultural, Economic and Innovation System. This facilitates actions with an overarching scope and an economic, cultural and scientific and technological outlook, with themed initiatives and special-purpose actions for priority geographical areas.

The roadshow is part of the integrated promotion strategy of Made in Italy production, promoted by the Farnesina.

The event illustrates the tools made available by the central institutions and the diplomatic network for the territorial internationalisation process in all its aspects and favours synergies within the framework of the integrated promotion strategy of Italy's Cultural, Economic and Innovation System.

Three workshops will lead to an analysis of the development potentials and opportunities of best practice for the Metropolitan City of Florence, within the framework of the cultural and creative industry and tourist attractions. This approach includes economic diplomacy and attracting investments with an international outlook on scientific research, universities and technological innovation.

The Italian diplomatic and consular network will support integrated promotion missions of the Metropolitan City of Florence in strategic countries.
