London: The art of Renato Guttuso

London: The art of Renato Guttuso

An exhibition of the work of one of Italian modern and contemporary art’s greatest painters, Renato Guttuso, opens on Wednesday at London’s Estorick Collection – after an absence of over 20 years in the British capital – will run through 4 April. The Sicilian painter (1911-1987) was twice senator of the Italian Republic and became famous for his pictorial descriptions of Palermo’s “mercato della Vucciria”, i.e. of the real Sicily, and of the funeral of Togliatti and other events that drew the participation of the masses in the post-War years. "Renato Guttuso: Painter of Modern Life" was organised thanks to collaboration between the Galleria d'Arte Maggiore of Bologna and London’s Estorick Collection, located in Islington and specialised in Italian art.
