The Italian Institute of Culture (IIC) participated in the 35th edition of the contemporary ARCOMadrid art fair with an exhibition entitled "Illustrations for Children: Italian Excellence". The exhibition, co-organised by the Bologna Childrens' Book Fair and the Italian Institute of Culture in Madrid, was included in the fair's programme of collateral activities. The Madrid Institute also sponsored the presence of Lorenzo Giusti, Director of the Provincial Art Museum in Nuoro and of Marigusta Lazzari, the Director of the Fondazione Querini Stampalia in Venice, at the Work Museum Sessions for the directors of European and international museums.

The Institute also organised and hosted a programme entitled “Waiting for ARCO with the Italian Institute of Culture”, which began with the implementation of the “Arte che Verra’” (Art of the Future) artist-in-residence project and a meeting with young sculptor Paolo Peroni, winner of the Cramum Award. The programme continued with two events: “Updated Artists' Guide to Survival or How to Get into the Contemporary Arts System Without Selling Your Soul”, staged by Valeria Farill, curator and art manager of the cultural association "Forward: Arte dalla Tua Parte".
