United States: the lecture

"From the spoon to the city of the future, sustainability and innovation": these are the themes discussed on March 19 by architects Marco Piva and Chad Oppenheim at the Marangoni Institute in Miami to celebrate the 2019 Italian Design Day.

Before a public of professionals of the sector - designers, architects and local contractors - the Italian Consul General in Miami, Cristiano Musillo, highlighted how Italian projects have contributed to defining the "skyline" of Florida's most important city over the years. The Consul expressed his wish that the event encourage a closer collaboration between Italy and Miami. Musillo concluded by stating that Italian design and architecture represent a point of reference for Miami, in particular in connection to themes such as circular economy, climate change and mobility, three sectors in which Italy is leader at international level.

Italian Design Ambassador Piva presented remarkably innovative urban solutions which can ensure a sustainable development model for future cities.

On his part, American architect Oppenheim focused on the importance of re-establishing a virtuous circle between design and nature.

The event, moderated by Professor Antonio Nanni of the University of Miami, was attended by Riccardo di Blasio of the American Nebia, a company that, thanks to the support of investors such as Tim Cook, Eric Schmidt and Joe Gebbia, launched a revolutionary shower which makes it possible to save well over 65% of water currently used for showers.
