Vico Magistretti and the icons of Italian design take centre stage in Prague

The presentation of the exhibition entitled “Italian Design” was held in the prestigious venue of the National House of Vinohrady in Prague. The Italian Embassy and Cultural Institute, in partnership with the Italian-Czech Chamber of Commerce and Industry, have brought to the Czech capital more than 100 icons of Italian design, including the works of one of its leading representatives: Vico Magistretti. The exhibition also displays famous objects from the“Fondazione Sartirana Arte”. The show follows a chronological order and begins by introducing visitors into a space dedicated to Magistretti, and then unfolds along an itinerary that displays works by Roberto Barbieri, Michele De Lucchi, Franco Albini, Giotto Stoppino, Enzo Berti, Marco Zanuso, Roberto Barbieri, Alberto Meda, Anna Castelli Ferrieri, Ferruccio Laviani, Piero Lissoni, Ettore Sottsass, Joe Colombo, along with international artists like Ron Arad, Patricia Urquiola, Maarten Van Severen, Marcel Wanders, Phillippe Starck, Ronan & Erwan Boroullec and many more. On display at the exhibition are also some of the leading design companies such as Oluce, Artemide, Flou, Schiffini, Zanotta, Cassina, Poltrona Frau, Kartell, Calligaris and Memphis.

Since the opening of the exhibition, Prague 5, the city district where the National House is located, has been witnessing an unprecedented flow of a multifaceted public, including experts, journalists and lovers of the Italian lifestyle. This force of attraction was also celebrated by the Councillor for Culture, Martin Damasek, the Italian Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Aldo Amati, and the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute, Giovanni Sciola.

“Design is the meeting point between artistic flair, creativity and the world of business, in a productive synthesis that represents one of the sectors of Italian excellence in the world,” said Ambassador Amati. He continued: “This is what puts design, together with Italian cuisine, language and cinema, at the top of the #VivereALLitaliana cultural promotion strategy implemented by our diplomatic network in the world through a Brand that aims to instil beauty and poetry in every realm of life, design and production.”

Alessandra Georgescu, the curator of the exhibition, illustrated the works to a public of approximately 100 people citing original anecdotes and details. The exhibition will run until 19 November.
