Italy and Milan have been adjudicated the organisation of the World Energy Congress, the annual event that gathers almost 100 countries and the major international energy companies for a 4-day event.
The decision to assign the organisation of the event to Milan was taken at the annual Assembly of the World Energy Council (WEC) 2016 held in Istanbul last 9 October on the eve of the opening of the World Energy Congress 2016, which was attended by Heads of State and Government and more than 50 ministerial delegations who debated the theme “Embracing New Frontiers” with representatives of the major international energy companies.
In addition to the conference agenda, the Milan WEC Assembly 2018 will host two high-level corporate and institutional summits with the attendance of CEOs and ministerial delegations (in the area of energy, environment and foreign affairs) from countries of the Mediterranean and Africa. Energy security, accessibility, sustainability and the water-energy supply chain will be some of the main topics of debate in Milan thanks to the strategic energy diplomacy promoted by Italy in the Euro-Mediterranean region extending out to Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
With this success, Milan is confirmed to be an international forum of debate on energy and sustainability, promoting dialogue on the UN 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.
