Press release

Deputy Premier and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Massimo D'Alema, who is in constant contact with the MFA, is monitoring developments in the negotiations underway in the United Nations to draw up a resolution on the Israeli-Lebanon crisis, which the Security Council will review shortly.

Minister D'Alema has said he is encouraged by the significant signs of openness that emerged today from various sources regarding the possibility of taking greater account of the requests of the Lebanese government vis à vis several key points of the resolution. The Deputy Premier hopes that an inclusive agreement will be rapidly secured, one that can count on the support of all the parties involved.

The Minister also expressed his hope that the talks in New York enable the definition of principles and conditions forming the basis for a ceasefire and, at a future date, an inclusive and lasting resolution of the current crisis.
