Deputy Premier and Minister for Foreign Affairs Massimo D’Alema met today at the foreign ministry in Rome with Executive Director of the American Jewish Committee David Harris

In the course of their meeting Minister D’Alema outlined the most important aspects of the mission he is about to make to the Middle East, which is intended to encourage those initiatives currently under way aimed at spurring resumption of the Israeli–Palestinian dialogue, ahead of the international meeting to be held in the United States this autumn.

Director Harris expressed his association’s appreciation for Italy’s active role in the region, including its contribution to the UNFIL deployment in Lebanon.

Minister D’Alema and Director Harris agreed that it is necessary to increase efforts at exploiting every opportunity offered by the new political–diplomatic dynamism in that region with a view to making tangible and lasting progress.
