It is hereby announced that, having received the consent of the governments concerned, the following appointment was recently approved by the Council of Ministers:
Achille Franco Luigi AMERIO
Ambassador of Italy to Damascus
Born in Glasgow (Great Britain) in 1948, he completed a Law degree at the University of Rome in 1972 and entered the Foreign Service in 1974.
Among the positions held in the course of his career, after first being assigned to the Directorate General for Personnel, he was appointed Consul in Lausanne in 1976 and then became First Secretary in Bucharest.
On his return to Rome in 1983 he was assigned to the Directorate General for Political Affairs. In 1986 he was appointed First Counsellor in Ankara, and in 1990 in Paris. In 1994 he was appointed Deputy Head of the Press and Information Service.
From 1995 to 1996 he was once again assigned to the Directorate General for Political Affairs and then moved to Moscow as Minister Counsellor.
In 2002 he was appointed Minister in the Italian Permanent Representation at N.A.T.O.
He has been Diplomatic Counsellor to the Minister of Defence since 2004.
