Within the context of efforts on behalf of hijacked Italian ships Savina Caylyn and Rosalia D’Amato, the Foreign and Defence Ministries announced intensification of counter-piracy operations.Within the framework of institutional efforts to monitor the hijacking of two Italian ships – “Savina Caylyn “ and “Rosalia D’Amato” –the Foreign and Defence Ministries jointly reviewed the advisability of intensifying monitoring and surveillance of the two merchant ships through the frigate “Doria”, currently part of the NATO “Ocean Shield” operation. The Defence Ministry has had a monitoring system in place since the beginning of the situation, maintained thanks to international collaboration within the context of a counter-piracy operation known as “Atalanta” under the aegis of the EU and the NATO “Ocean Shield” operation.

The additional Italian ship will act as reinforcement for the complex inter-institutional efforts under way through which the foreign ministry continuously updates the families of the Italians on board with all available information.
