Minister for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini expressed distress at the killing of Andrea Rochelli. “The death of journalist Andrea Rochelli is cause for deep pain both for his young age and also because once again the most courageous of the press are made to pay the price”, she asserted.
“Up to the last I hoped that the news that came in the early yesterday afternoon from Ukraine would be wrong, but we have had confirmation; my heart goes out to Rochelli’s family, and I want them to know that the foreign ministry and I personally are at their disposal”, the minister said.
“I wish also to send my condolences to the family of the Russian interpreter killed with Rochelli, Amdrey Mironov, and my best wishes for the rapid recovery of William Rogueolon, the French journalist wounded in the same attack”, she added.
“We call upon the Ukraine authorities to ascertain the dynamics of this attack; I will personally be in contact with Ukraine foreign minister Andrii Deshchytsia”, Mogherini explained.
“It is as a result of this tragedy as well that we continue to hope that today’s presidential elections succeed in placing Ukraine on the road to national reconciliation”, she concluded.
