The crises in Iraq, Syria and Libya were the key topics for discussion at the meeting today, 9 September 2014, between Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini and her colleague from the United Arab Emirates, Sheik Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The two ministers expressed their concern over the atrocities committed by ISIS, which they firmly condemned. They agreed on the need to present a coordinated response to the crises and to provide urgent humanitarian assistance for the populations affected.
Mogherini also underscored the need to open a political dialogue in Libya in order to bring an end to the fighting and preserve the country’s territorial integrity.
Both ministers reiterated their common interest in further strengthening the strategic partnership between Rome and Abu Dhabi.
