Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Senator Benedetto Della Vedova, met today at the Farnesina with Serbia’s Minister for European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic. Their meeting centred on Serbian prospects for opening accession negotiations with the EU, forms of regional cooperation with the Western Balkans and economic bilateral relations with Belgrade.
“As duty President of the European Union, Italy vigorously supports the timely opening of Serbian accession negotiations with the EU, not least in light of the reforms implemented by Belgrade, which we encourage, and of its framework of relations with other countries of the region”, Della Vedova underscored, who also pointed out the imminent launch of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region, recently approved by the European Council. In that framework “Italy and Serbia collaborate by coordinating on the pilaster of connectivity, infrastructure and energy. We must not forget, moreover”, Della Vedova concluded, “that Italy is Serbia’s top investor as well as top supplier and buyer”.
