Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Founding Countries of the European Union

Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Paolo Gentiloni will host a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the six founders of the European Union (Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands) tomorrow at Villa Madama in Rome,  in anticipation of the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome signed on 25 March, 1957.

The meeting will allow a joint reflection to begin on how to strengthen the European Union starting from the main challenges that Europe currently faces.

The future of the European Union and the prospects for relaunching the integration process will be on the meeting’s agenda, which will also adress today’s most important  issues, including immigration, with particular reference to crisis areas, in order to identify an effective and coherent European response.

The 60th anniversary in March 2017, when the Treaty of Rome will be celebrated, is an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment to a stronger Union with the involvement of all the EU Member States that share the need to continue on the path to integration based on the set of shared values, ideas and hopes of the Founding Fathers.
