The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Benedetto Della Vedova, will be on an official visit to Canada from 20 to 22 April. In Ottawa, the Undersecretary will meet Stéphane Dion, the Foreign Minister of the government led by Justin Trudeau, to acknowledge the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries, also at economic level, and to exchange views on the major international crises and on international current events, spanning from migration flows to the fight against terrorism. Undersecretary Della Vedova will also meet with foreign affairs critics Hon. Hélène Laverdière, of the New Democratic Party, and Hon. Tony Clement, of the Conservative Party. He is also scheduled to meet a numerous delegation of Italian-Canadian members of parliament and representatives of the Italian community. On his agenda is also a meeting with the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and the Assistant Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Public Safety.
He will also attend the conference “Brexit, refugees and security: the EU at the crossroads”, organised by the Centre for International Governance Innovation, a Canadian think tank, in partnership with the International Development Research Centre Carleton University.
In Toronto, the Undersecretary has scheduled two meetings: with members of the Italian community and representatives of Italian companies operating in Ontario, including a delegation of Italian agro-food companies organised by the Chamber of Commerce of Sondrio in conjunction with Canadian buyers and importers.
