Italian child flown to Bari from Albania on humanitarian flight. Alfano: “Excellent teamwork coordinated by the Foreign Ministry”

An Italian seven-year-old girl was flown back to Italy this morning to receive emergency medical care. The child, who is affected by a genetic disease, suffered a severe respiratory crisis while visiting Albania and the physicians advised that she be hospitalised in Italy. After having evaluated the situation, the Italian Embassy in Tirana immediately activated the repatriation procedure with an aircraft of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.

“Thanks to the work of our Embassy, of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, of the Air Force, of the Prefecture of Bari and of the John XXIII Paediatric Hospital of the Apulian capital, which dispatched a team of doctors with the required equipment, the little girl was brought back to Bari this morning,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano.

“These are very delicate and complex operations requiring great speed and the Foreign Ministry performed a decisive coordinating role in this excellent teamwork,” concluded Minister Alfano.
