Jan van Huysum's "Vase of flowers" is returned to Italy

Jan van Huysum's

The oil painting "Vase of Flowers" by Dutch master Jan van Huysum will be returned to Pitti Palace in Florence. The foreign ministers of Germany and Italy, Heiko Maas and Enzo Moavero Milanesi, will travel to Florence for the painting’s official handover.

The painting was stolen from the Florence Gallery at the time of the German occupation during World War II and remained in Germany ever since. In January Uffizi Gallery director, Eike Schmidt, made a public statement about it.

Thanks to the strong cooperation between Ministers Maas and Moavero, the still life, one of the Dutch master's most important masterpieces, will be hung back in the place Leopoldo II of Lorraine, Grand Duke of Tuscany originally assigned to it nearly two centuries ago.
