South Sudan. Humanitarian flight in the framework of the

In the framework of the European Union Humanitarian Air Bridge launched by the European Commission DG ECHO to facilitate the movement of goods and humanitarian personnel in the context of the current Covid-19 pandemic, a humanitarian flight departing this morning from the United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD) in Brindisi to South Sudan (Juba) was organised at the instigation of the Vice Minister Del Re.

The operation, with a total cargo of 50 tons of humanitarian aid (including medical material to counter Covid-19), is the result of intense cooperation and coordination between the Foreign Ministry, DG ECHO, the Italian Civil Society Organisations and the United Nations Agencies (World Food Programme) who participated in the expedition by making their humanitarian material available. At its destination, the aid will support activities to assist the most vulnerable sections of the South Sudanese population, particularly in the health sector.

The operation is a tangible demonstration of the "Team Europe" approach, which aims to put the initiatives of the EU and its Member States into practice in the best possible way.
