Minister Luigi Di Maio had a telephone conversation with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita. The cordial conversation focused on bilateral relations and the situation in Libya.
Di Maio expressed his appreciation for the role of Morocco as a strategic partner for Italy from a political, economic and cultural perspective, and confirmed his willingness to further deepen the fruitful bilateral cooperation between Rome and Rabat, recalling the political path started with the Joint Declaration on the Multidimensional Strategic Partnership signed on 1st November last. In particular, the consolidated presence of Italian companies in the Moroccan production fabric constitutes an excellent basis for further intensifying economic cooperation, with special reference to sectors with a high content of innovation and technology.
In examining the latest developments in the situation in Libya, Minister Di Maio reiterated the importance of collaboration with Rabat on this dossier, underlining how Morocco can bring significant added value to the political solution of the ongoing crisis in the country. Finally, Minister Di Maio recalled that, in the perspective of a negotiated solution to the Libyan crisis, Italy today pursues two priorities: the achievement of a lasting ceasefire and the rapid recovery of oil production.
